Compulsory additional recognition requirements
The following requirements are compulsory for all BUPA Recognised Natural Therapists.- Private Practice
- Continuing Professional Education (CPE)
- Professional Indemnity Insurance
- Senior First Aid certificate
- Full1 membership
BUPA Recognised Providers are required to be in private practice. The BUPA definition of private practice for the purposes of the BUPA Recognition Criteria is as follows:
"Private practice means that the person is self employed and solely responsible for their own operating cost, sick leave, annual leave etc, and that their income is primarily derived from the fee to patient/client for services rendered, at that practice.
Where a provider practices in conjunction with other providers, they can be deemed to be in private practice providing that the income of that group is derived from fees received from patients/clients of the practice. The group or individual practitioner is not funded or contracted to any public or private authority except for the payment to that authority for rent of premises"
Demonstrate participation in Continuing Professional Education, aiming to maintain practical and theoretical skills in areas directly related to the chosen field of practice by completing a minimum of 20 CPE points per annum. (1 point = 1 hour)
Possession of current Professional Indemnity Insurance of $1,000,000 minimum, per claim. The professional indemnity insurance policy must cover each practice and each modality covered by this application.
Possession of a current Senior/Workplace First Aid certificate or equivalent
Full membership only with relevant association which meets the requirements of rule 10 of the Private Health Insurance (Accreditation) Rules 2008 is accepted. Student membership is not acceptable.
1The association are those that have agreed to supply Bupa with electronic address details of their members who meet the Bupa Recognition Criteria and have agreed to abide by the Bupa Ancillary Provider Terms.
