Speech pathologists
Information on Recognition
Applicants practising in Queensland must be registered with the Speech Pathologist Board of Queensland. In all other States, the Australian Capital Territory and the Northern Territory, they must be a 'Practising Member’ of Speech Pathology Australia and be in private practice.
They must then obtain a provider number from Medicare Australia who will notify all health funds of the provider number and the relevant practice information. Medicare Australia can be contacted on 132 150 or via www.medicareaustralia.gov.au/providers/forms/medicare/ancillary_providers.htm.
Please note that ancillary benefits are not payable for the following:
- ‘Instrumental Enrichment’ programs
- Services billed for parent / carer training, usually in the management of a child's condition
- Elocution lessons
- Public speaking training (usually voice projection and presentation)
